Leaders of the Requiem performance
in Shanghai

Together with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and the Shanghai Philharmonic Chorus, SDG’s first Project Uplift supported the first-ever performance of Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem in the history of China. In an effort to give the three performances a special significance to Chinese audiences, we commissioned Chinese composer Bright Sheng to translate the text of the Requiem into Chinese, enabling the chorus and soloists to sing the entire work in the vernacular. Co-sponsored by the General Motors Corporation and the Chinese Cultural Institute.
