Delta David Gier

Soli Deo Gloria is pleased to announce the appointment of conductor Delta David Gier to the position of Associate Artistic Director. Maestro Gier joined the Soli Deo Gloria board of directors in 2005. His expertise and professional achievements in the area of contemporary classical music led the board of directors to appoint him to this newly created position. In this new role, Maestro Gier will oversee the organization’s commissioning programs, while continuing to assist in the organization’s other ongoing projects including performances and recordings of sacred works.

Says Gier of his new appointment, “To be a part of shaping the future of sacred music is a great privilege for me. Working with SDG is a wonderful opportunity to wed my musical and spiritual passions, and adds a new dimension to my commitment to contemporary music. I believe that this art form has the potential to bridge divides, both cultural and religious, and to create community in a way that is unique and powerful. I look forward to what we can accomplish together, facilitating sacred music’s ability to inspire, enable and heal.”

Delta David Gier has held the position of Music Director for the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra since the 2004-05 season, where he successfully introduced a series of concerts featuring the music of Pulitzer Prize-winning composers. For the past ten seasons, he has also served as an assistant conductor for the New York Philharmonic, and has served in that role for the Metropolitan Opera as well. Maestro Gier will be directing all of the NY Philharmonic’s Young People’s Concerts in the 2007-08 season.
