TITLE

Soli Deo Gloria joyously releases to the world two new DVDs of sacred masterworks, filmed live in concert: Beethoven's rarely heard Missa Solemnis and Haydn's beloved oratorio, The Creation (Die Schöpfung), conducted by John Nelson.

NEW FROM THE SOLI DEO GLORIA COLLECTION / IDÉALE AUDIENCE

A Musical Feast!

SDG's first DVD production, Bach’s Mass in B Minor at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, was released in 2009, to worldwide critical acclaim, and we have been looking forward to this day when we could add these two stellar masterworks to The Soli Deo Gloria Collection.

BEETHOVEN
Missa Solemnis

John Nelson, conductor
Tamara Wilson, soprano
Elizabeth DeShong, alto
Nikolai Schukoff, tenor
Brindley Sherratt, bass
Gulbenkian Choir
Chamber Orchestra of Europe

Filmed live in the Grand Auditorium of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon, Portugal, in February 2010. Directed by Rhodri Huw.

"The Missa Solemnis, which Beethoven
considered the crown of his music,
may be the greatest piece
most listeners never hear."
—Jan Swafford, composer and author

Beethoven wrote that “music is the electrical soil in which the spirit lives, thinks & invents,” and this DVD of his rarely performed choral masterpiece, Missa Solemnis, beautifully brings to life the composer’s spiritual intent "to awaken and permanently instill religious feelings, not only in the singers, but also in the listeners."

“Everything about the creation of the Missa Solemnis DVD was thrilling. We professionals who spend our lives making music are blessed to do what we do. But it is not every day that we experience everything coming together in a kind of perfection. This was that day.”—John Nelson

HAYDN
The Creation (Die Schöpfung)

John Nelson, conductor
Lisa Milne, soprano
Werner Güra, tenor
Matthew Rose, bass
Lucy Crowe, soprano
Jonathan Beyer, bass
The Netherlands Radio Choir
The Netherlands Radio Chamber Philharmonic

Filmed live at the Grote Kerk, Naarden, Netherlands in June 2010. Directed by Rhodri Huw.

“I don’t think there is any composer
who had more of a sense of humor than Haydn.
He was just naturally given to fun, to joy, to humor
… and you find it all in this music.”
—John Nelson, conductor

Filmed in the beautiful setting of Grote Kerk, one of the oldest churches in the Netherlands, Haydn's musical portrait of the mystery of Creation comes alive. The acoustics of the venue make the music sound magical, and the results are a magnificent Creation.

Both the Beethoven and Haydn productions were video broadcast live on medici.tv, and, joining the Mass in B Minor in Medici’s video-on-demand catalog, have together received over 100,000 online viewings.

Our presence on DVD's of this caliber, along with our growing presence online, enables us to vastly expand our visibility to a world 'thirsty' for sacred music. It also allows us to share the vision and musical mission of this unique and extraordinary organization.Robert Sobel, SDG Board Member
