A Tribute to Dr. Richard Gieser

Dr. Richard G. Gieser, M.D.

The first annual Soli Deo Gloria Spring Benefit Dinner held on March 23, 2013, celebrated SDG’s visionary founder, Dr. Richard G. Gieser, who was named Lifetime Director and Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Directors of Soli Deo Gloria.

Over the last two decades, Dr. Gieser has received many honors, including Outstanding Humanitarian Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Humanitarian of the Year from Baylor University College of Medicine, for his dedicated work as an ophthalmologist in Wheaton and in many countries around the world. We, in turn, wanted to honor Dr. Gieser for his avid love of music, his sponsorship of many programs in his home, church and community, and his dedication to the work of SDG.

The gala event was held in the architecturally beautiful DuPage County Historical Museum in Wheaton (Illinois) and featured a performance by internationally celebrated soprano Elizabeth Futral, star of both the Lyric Opera of Chicago and New York’s Metropolitan Opera. SDG donors, board members, and friends came from far and wide, including Marj Decker, SDG’s first employee who traveled from Denver; Chandler Branch, SDG’s former Executive Director, who drove up from St. Louis; and John Nelson, SDG’s Founding Artistic Director, who flew in from Florida.

We hope the photos convey some of the joy and gratitude shared, as we dined on award-winning food, enjoyed the Museum’s HO Gauge Model Railroad, heard beautiful music, and celebrated Dr. Gieser’s support of SDG and classical sacred music.
